Lisa Ross, a certified public accountant, has announced her candidacy for the District 2 seat on the nonpartisan Port of Vancouver Board of Commissioners that is now held by Nancy Baker.

In a news release, Ross said she has more than five years of experience working in the intermodal chemical transportation industry with companies that do business with the port.

She said the port doesn’t need all of the nearly $10 million in property taxes it receives, that she supports building what would be the nation’s largest rail-to-marine oil transfer terminal at the port, and that the oil terminal will bring security challenges to the port.

“I think there should be a thorough review of the existing security at our port based on these new tenants,” Ross said. Tesoro Corp. and Savage Companies, in partnership as Vancouver Energy, propose building the oil terminal.

Ross said the port is profitable and that some of the property taxes it receives “could be returned or at least diverted to projects in the city and county that need the money.
