Vancouver — Northwest Pipe Co., the Vancouver-based steel pipe manufacturer, reported a first-quarter net loss of $2.1 million, the company said this week. That compares with a net loss of $12.1 million in the January-to-March period in 2014.

The company recorded net sales of $84.9 million, up 2.7 percent from net sales of $82.6 million for the first quarter last year.

Sales in Northwest Pipe’s water transmission segment were $56.2 million in the first quarter, up roughly 31 percent from $43 million in the first quarter of 2014.

“While the competitive landscape is expected to remain pretty challenging, we are very optimistic about the projected bidding level in the next two quarters, leading to better results in the second half of 2015,” Scott Montross, president and CEO of Northwest Pipe, said in a news release.
