PORTLAND — Cold case homicide detectives arrested two men in connection with the 2001 killing of a suspected gang member in outer southeast Portland.

Portland police said Wednesday that Ramone Gonzalez and Luis Gonzalez have been booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of murder and attempted aggravated murder. The men are not related.

The killing happened on a summer night at the intersection of Powell Boulevard and Southeast 82nd Avenue.

Witnesses told police that shots were fired into a white minivan, striking the people inside. A short time later, the victims arrived at a nearby hospital. One of them, 19-year-old Pedro Valenzuela, died and another survived.

Police say Luis Gonzalez was already in custody on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest. Ramone Gonzalez was booked into jail early Wednesday.
