The Downtown Camas Association is this year’s winner of a prestigious statewide award from the Washington State Main Street Program for its monthly First Friday celebrations.

The award — Outstanding Promotional Event of the Year — will be presented today at Washington Main Street’s Excellence on Main awards ceremony in Bellingham. The ceremony takes place amid the Revitalize WA 2015 conference, a three-day meeting and celebration of Main Street programs in cities all over the state.

Over the years, First Friday has become a staple of downtown Camas, drawing local residents and visitors to restaurants, bars and stores along Fourth Avenue. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the city’s inaugural First Friday.

As the economy has recovered in the past three years, foot traffic has significantly picked up at the events. Attendance has grown about 30 percent in just the last year.

Meanwhile, the Downtown Camas Association has operated with more organized leadership, planning each First Friday around a special theme.
