A woman was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle in west Vancouver on Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported at East Mill Plain Boulevard and W Street at 12:22 p.m. A woman was crossing midblock when she was struck by a vehicle that couldn’t stop, said Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

“The driver didn’t anticipate a pedestrian being there,” Kapp said.

She was transported to a local hospital, where she was reported in critical condition Thursday. Police did not release the woman’s name. The driver and other witnesses remained on scene, and there’s no indication so far that speed or impairment were factors, Vancouver police said.

The Vancouver Police Department’s traffic unit is investigating what happened.
