Drinking on ‘Blue Bloods,’ ‘About a Boy’ done

You have questions. I have some answers.

I noticed in the first few seasons of “Blue Bloods,” everyone in the family is enjoying lots of scotch and whiskey by the glassful. Then later, they are all drinking beer, and now there is no booze in sight at all. Was there some pressure from anti-drinking corners?

For some reason, fans of “Blue Bloods” are so protective of the show that they question any seeming change in it. One fan wrote to question why we didn’t see the characters saying grace at dinner. But they still do at times — and the show has repeatedly established how religious the Reagan family is.

The same thing applies to their alcohol consumption. Sometimes they drink, sometimes they don’t.

Is the J.K. Simmons who won a Golden Globe and Oscar the same one who played on “The Closer” and other series as well as Farmers Insurance commercials?

Yes, it’s the same guy. You may also know him from the old HBO series “Oz,” as newspaper editor Jonah Jameson in Tobey Maguire’s “Spider-Man” movies and a lot of other work.

What happened to “About a Boy?” It was on Tuesday for a while and then was gone.

The series, based on a Nick Hornby novel that also inspired a movie of the same name with Hugh Grant, appears to be done. Minnie Driver, who co-starred, tweeted in February about the show ending its run after two seasons. At the time, though, there were apparently six unaired episodes, which may show up later on the air or online.

TNT picked up “Dallas” and continued the soap. I looked for it this year (2015), but it was nowhere to be found. Will TNT continue the series, or is it gone forever?

TNT decided not to continue its “Dallas” revival after three seasons, and I have not seen any indication that it will continue on another network.

Is there a reason you aren’t responding to my question whether or not “Last Tango in Halifax” is returning to PBS for another season? This is my third email to you! You don’t have to publish my question; just email me an answer, please.

Let me explain: I receive questions from readers every day. Some can be answered more quickly than others. Some involve questions that I answered not long before. In addition, the many newspapers running this Q&A sometimes edit out questions and answers for space and other reasons.

I said in a column some time ago that “Last Tango in Halifax” would be back for a third season; you may have missed that. But I can add now that there’s a return date: June 28.

And while it would be nice to answer every question individually, because of the volume of mail received and my other work obligations, I do not guarantee separate replies.
