A series of events starting next week will invite people to share memories of the catastrophic eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980.

The events will include a gathering at 5 p.m. May 19 at Loowit Brewing, 507 Columbia St., Vancouver. There is a $5 suggested donation, and all ages are welcome, according to the Mount St. Helens Institute, which is organizing the events.

Participants will talk about the mountain before the eruption, as well as the impact of the disaster and its effect on people’s lives. People are invited to bring photos, scrapbooks or other items to share, according to organizers.

Other public remembrance events will happen in Stevenson, Longview and Portland between May 13 and 21.
