Prep roundup: King’s Way baseball clinches state berth

Preston Danberg homered and Damon Casetta-Stubbs pitched 6⅓ shutout innings as the King’s Way Christian baseball team beat Tenino 7-0 to clinch a state berth.

King’s Way Christian, playing its first season of varsity baseball, will play Hoquiam on Saturday in Castle Rock for the 1A district championship.

Danberg went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and three RBI for the Knights. Casetta-Stubbs struck out seven and gave up five hits. He also drove home two runs.

Riley Danberg and Joshua Tully each went 2 for 3 for King’s Way.

La Center had its loser-out game against Elma in the 1A district tournament rained out. The teams will meet Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Rochester High School.

Woodland 4, Black Hills 3 — Aaron Shoup was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Hunter Raney from third with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as the Beavers won a first-round game in the 2A district tournament.

Woodland will face Tumwater at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Chehalis for a berth to the 2A state tournament.

Cody Shepherd hit a two-run home run for the Beavers in the bottom of the fifth to put Woodland up 3-1 before Black Hills rallied to tie it in the sixth.

Hockinson-W.F. West suspended — Hockinson and W.F. West were tied 2-2 in the eighth inning when their game Tuesday was suspended by rain in Hockinson.

The two teams will resume their game at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Centralia High School.

Ridgefield-Centralia rained out — The 2A district first-round game between Ridgefield and Centralia was rained out. The game was rescheduled for 4 p.m. today at Centralia.

Boys soccer

Hazen 2, Prairie 1 — Prairie’s season came to an end in the Class 3A bi-district playoffs.

Hazen scored a second-half goal, and the Falcons would not find the equalizer.

“We had a few chances. We were off a tick,” Prairie coach Michael Thyron said. “One of those days.”

Hazen scored less than two minutes into the match.

The Falcons tied it at the 10-minute mark on a goal from Mack Stone off an assist from Andrew McBee.

La Center 3, Hoquiam 0 — Colton Arends scored two goals as the Wildcats advanced to the 1A district semifinals.

La Center will face Toledo-Winlock at 7 p.m. Thursday in Kalama for a berth to state. The loser will get a second chance to advance to state on Saturday.

Alex Firl added a goal and an assist for La Center.
