Prep highlights: Easterly pitches River to victory

Chieftains need two more wins Saturday to reach state

Taylor Easterly struck out 12 and Blake McKinney went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI as the Columbia River baseball team beat Capital of Olympia 11-3 in a loser-out game in the 3A bi-district tournament on Thursday.

Columbia River will face Bonney Lake at 10 a.m. Saturday in Tacoma in another loser-out game. The Chieftains must win two loser-out games in Tacoma Saturday to advance to state.

River got the early jump on the Cougars, scoring seven times in the bottom of the first.

Alex McGarry and Josh Ebert each went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Centralia 9, Hockinson 2 — Kade Spencer had an RBI double as the Hawks lost in the semifinals of the 2A district tournament.

Hockinson will play Black Hills at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Centralia in a loser-out game. The Hawks must win two loser-out games Saturday to advance to state.

Tumwater 7, Woodland 0 — The Beavers were limited to three hits in a semifinal loss in the 2A district tournament.

Woodland will play W.F. West at 11 a.m. Saturday in Centralia in a loser-out game. The Beavers must win two loser-out games Saturday to advance to state.

W.F. West 15, Ridgefield 1 — Cody Duncan’s home run was the lone highlight in an elimination loss for the Spudders in the 2A district tournament.

Boys soccer

Washougal 2, Black Hills 1 — Devid Gonzalez scored twice, including the game-winner midway through the second half for Washougal.

The win keeps Washougal alive in the 2A district tournament. The Panthers will host R.A. Long on Saturday in a winner-to-state, loser-out match.

La Center 2, Toledo-Winlock 1 — Alex Firl scored in the final minute of regulation to send the Wildcats into the 1A district championship match.

Colton Arends also contributed as goal as the Wildcats knocked off the Trico League champions.

La Center will face White Salmon at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kalama for the district title, which will determine the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds to the state tournament.

Boys lacrosse

Matt Welinski and Austin Garwood scored three goals apiece on Tuesday as the Camas boys lacrosse team beat Columbia River 11-5. The win earned Camas a playoff berth while ending the season for Columbia River.

Camas will open the Washington High School Boys lacrosse Association Division II playoffs at 2 p.m. Saturday at Camas High School against Gonzaga Prep. Union, the No. 1 seed from the Central-South Division, will host Meadowdale at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Camas High School.

Stars of the day

• Allie Hancock, Emma Jimenez, Alexis Tiedy, Camas softball, combined for six of the Papermakers’ nine hits and 10 RBI in an 11-0 win over Heritage to clinch the 4A GSHL title outright.

• Reilly Whitlock and Taylor Hartley, Union golf, both shot 38s to tie for medalist honors at Cedars in a dual team win over Battle Ground that clinched the 4A GSHL title.

• Hailey Oster and Connie Wang, Camas golf, tied for medalist with 39 each at Camas Meadows in dual win over Skyview.

• Abby Kadrmas, Mountain View golf, was medalist with 40 as the Thunder beat Heritage at Green Mountain.

• Maddie Williams, Prairie softball, pitched a five-inning perfect game, striking out eight in a 11-0 win over Fort Vancouver.

• Bridget Guiney, Prairie softball, went 3 for 3 with two home runs and four RBI.

• Paige Stinson, La Center softball, pitched a five-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts in an 11-0 win at Stevenson.
