Ride-booking services Uber and Lyft are now authorized to pick up passengers at Portland International Airport.

The services are allowed to meet customers at bag claim on the lower roadway, at the north end at Island 1, said the Port of Portland, which operates the airport.

The service authorization took effect May 8. Before that, the companies were not legally allowed to pick up passengers at the airport, even though the services had been approved by some local governments.

Uber, which serves Vancouver, said on its website that its customers will be billed an airport surcharge of $2 for pickup and drop-off at PDX. Lyft does not serve Vancouver, according to its website.
