Prep highlights: La Center boys claim Trico track and field title

Tistov has a big day in sprinting events for Wildcats

Phillip Tistov won the 100 and 200 meters and finished second in the 400 as La Center won the Trico League boys track and field championship Friday.

The Wildcats tallied 124 points, 17 better than White Salmon at Stevenson High School.

Steven McCombs of King’s Way Christian won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Stevenson’s Raymond Hernandez was also a multi-event winner, claiming the long jump and triple jump.

In the girls meet, King’s Way sprinter Kari Staples won the 100 and 200 meters.

La Center’s Jenna Melanson won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Stevenson’s Madison McCrum was the meet’s only triple winner. She won the long jump, high jump and pole vault.

White Salmon won the girls team title.

Stars of the day

• Lindsay MacNeil, Columbia River softball, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and scored three runs in a 10-0 win over Fort Vancouver.

• Amanda Moudy, La Center softball, was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI as the Wildcats completed an undefeated Trico League season with a 7-1 win over Stevenson.

• Alexis Kron and Morgan Spieth, Union softball: Spieth hit a home run, and Kron struck out six in six innings plus drove in two runs as Union beat Heritage 10-1 to tie Battle Ground for second place in 4A GSHL. Battle Ground will travel to Union for a 4 p.m. game Monday to break the tie before the district tournament.

• Julia Stepper, Woodland track, won the 100, 200 and long jump at the 2A GSHL sub-district meet.
