Letter: Wealthy can pay more

The Columbian
Published: May 15, 2015, 5:00pm

I disagree with Robert Wassman’s May 11 letter, “Taxes depress economy.”

The wealthy hide their money in Swiss accounts, off-shore accounts, shell companies, trusts, and by using highly paid, sophisticated accountants. They wish you to believe that if they are taxed at a higher rate, this will injure the economy. Hogwash. If we stopped the monetary shenanigans, the U.S. would stand to gain trillions of dollars. The wealthy are earning more in profits and paying less in taxes.
