Prep Roundup: La Center softball one win from state

Wildcats beat Tenino, but fall to Montesano

The La Center softball team split a pair of games at the Class 1A district tournament on Wednesday.

The Wildcats opened with a 11-1 win over Tenino before falling 3-0 to Montesano in a semifinal game in Centralia.

La Center will face Kalama on Saturday in a loser-out game at Centralia. The winner clinches at least fourth place and a berth to state.

Against Tenino, Abby England allowed just three hits and stuck out 13. Lilly Casey with 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and a home run.

In the semifinals, La Center managed just one hit against Montesano’s Madison Didion, who struck out 13.

Boys soccer

Ridgefield 4, Tyee 0 — Max Hauser scored three goals as the Spudders advanced to the Class 2A state quarterfinals.

Liam Knoeppel added the fouth goal and two assists for the Spudders, who will travel to face Fife on Saturday.

Girls tennis

Ridgefield doubles team in finals — Ridgefield’s Sarah Kaufman and Sophie Bird won two matches Wednesday to reach doubles final of the Class 2A district tournament in Tumwater.

Kaufman and Bird beat Sydney Creel and Hannah Jeffries of Centralia 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, then had an easier time against Jaycee Foster and Hayden Blaser in the semifinals, winning 6-3, 7-5.

Nala Comstock and Avery Honaker of Hudson’s Bay and Haley Briggs and Sami Anderson of Washougal are still alive in the consolation bracket.

Play concludes Thursday.
