SHELTON — A hiker has been rescued after sliding 300 feet below the state’s highest bridge, the High Steel Bridge in the Olympic National Forest in Mason County.
KOMO-TV reports emergency responders say the 20-year-old is lucky to be alive after getting in trouble below the 420-foot high bridge over the Skokomish River on Sunday night.
The Mason County sheriff’s office says rescuers spotted the hiker in the water and rappelled down to him. The man was hoisted back up to the bridge and was treated for a dislocated elbow.
Meanwhile, three other hikers were rescued in Snohomish County early Monday. The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says Everett Mountain Rescue brought down two men stranded on Mt. Dickerman and a woman with an injured ankle was carried out from the Perry Creek Trail.
A male search and rescue volunteer was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center after experiencing a medical event during a rescue operation. The sheriff’s office says he is in critical condition.
