KENNEWICK — An Aug. 17 trial has been set for a Kennewick man accused of molesting a grade-school girl and threatening her to keep quiet.

Khalid A. Fathey, 47, pleaded innocent in Benton County Superior Court to two counts of first-degree child molestation.

Prosecutors allege the girl’s mother became suspicious in December when she found the two together and Fathey “appeared nervous,” court documents said.

The girl later disclosed to her mother that Fathey allegedly kissed her on the mouth and touched her sexually several times over a six-month period. The girl said the last time it happened was when her mother caught him, court documents said.

Fathey “told her never to tell or she was going to get in trouble,” documents said.

Before the police were involved, Fathey called his religious leader, who had them sit down together with the girl’s parents, court documents said.

Fathey reportedly admitted to the inappropriate touching but would not elaborate on what he did, documents said.

The girl’s mother then fainted and police were called.

Fathey is free on his personal recognizance while the case is pending. He’s been ordered to have no contact with minors, particularly the young girl in this case.
