Vancouver United claims state high school equestrian title

Vancouver United won the team title for small teams at the Washington High School Equestrian Teams state championships.

Prairie placed second and Hockinson was third in team scoring for mid-sized teams at the state meet, which took place May 14-17 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake.

Vancouver United finished with 158 points, most among the 28 small teams with entries at the state meet. Shelby Lee’s gold medal in hunt seat over fences highlighted the individual results for Vancouver United.

This was the second year of the Vancouver United program for students who attend Vancouver Public Schools. Vancouver United entries who placed among the top 10 at state are listed in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Prairie earned five gold medals and one silver medal at the state meet, with Alivia Stone winning gold in three events.

Stone was the individual gold medalist in showmanship and in hunt seat competition, and was one of four members of Prairie’s in-hand obstacle relay team that won the gold medal. Joining Stone on the winning relay team were Paige Rinta, Kylie Vroman and Beca Thomas.

Casey Kampe won gold for roping and a silver medal for steer daubing. Devon LoBato and Vroman teamed up to win gold in working pairs.

All state meet results for Prairie are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Hockinson’s Hope Miller earned silver medals in three events: barrels, figure 8 and in reining. Jennifer Wirth of Hockinson won the silver medal for the working rancher event. Hockinson’s Shaylee Colman won bronze for trail equitation and for showmanship.

Washougal’s Chelsea Rogers was the gold medalist for pole bending.

White Salmon’s Regina Bell took the silver medal for dressage.

Battle Ground’s Mikayla Kytola and Hallie Wyles took the bronze medal for team sorting.

Woodland’s Tabitha Johnson earned bronze for in-hand trail.

For timed events, Prairie’s Kampe placed third in overall points, Hockinson’s Miller was fourth and Washougal’s Rogers fifth.
