Go for May 29: Hockinson Fun Days, Doggy Walk, Camas Farmers Market

1) Twilight run, bed race fun


Hockinson Fun Days
will introduce a two new events this year, along with a return of a fan favorite. The new Twilight Run begins at 7 p.m. May 29, with a kids 1-mile run, followed by a fun 5K run at 7:30 p.m. at Hockinson High School, 16819 N.E. 159th St., Brush Prairie. There will also be family bingo from 6 to 9 p.m. inside the high school. Depending on the weather, enjoy a bit of stargazing with local astronomers at 9:30 p.m. Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast at Fire District 3, 17718 N.E. 159th St., from 7 to 11:30 a.m., followed by carnival games from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Fun Days Parade starts at noon May 30, with a theme “Once Upon a Time,” followed by the second annual bed races. There will also be a cruise-in and music, and more at Elim Church, 15815 N.E. 182nd Ave. The Twilight Run is $20, $10 for ages 12 and younger. The pancake breakfast is $5 per person, $15 per family. 2) Free family fun

The Marshall Community Center will celebrate 50 years of community service during Marshall Family Fun Day. From noon to 5 p.m. May 30, the community center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver, will offer many free activities, from swimming and pottery, and fitness demonstrations. 3) Doggy walk

The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society invites walkers, runners and their dogs for its seventh annual Hike on the Dike, a fundraiser for the humane society. Participants can join the 10K or 5K run or the 5K walk along the Columbia River starting from the Pendleton Woolen Mills, 2675 S. Index St., Washougal. Following the race will be a pet-themed celebration with vendors, K-9 demonstrations, food and drink. Day of race registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the event running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30. 4) Savor the season

The Camas Farmer’s Market returns for its eighth season June 3 in downtown Camas, along Northeast Fourth Avenue between Northeast Everett and Franklin streets, Camas. The market features locally grown produce and artisan vendors from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, through Sept. 30. 5) Star-bright

The ever-popular Portland Rose Festival Starlight Parade nighttime parade features glowing floats, marching bands, hand-built entries from community groups and more. Keep an eye out for local marching bands from Hudson’s Bay, Union, Skyview, Mountain View and Heritage high schools. A fun run along the parade route takes place from 7:45 to 9 p.m., and there will be an after-party with Sir Mix-A-Lot, held the festival’s RoZone, following the parade. The event runs 8:30 to 11 p.m. May 30 in downtown Portland, from Northwest Burnside Street to Lincoln High School, 1600 S.W. Salmon St., Portland. Attending is free, the race registration is $20, $10 for ages 6 to 12, $5 for ages 5 and younger. www.rosefestival.org
