Letter: Think of the Bible as a period piece

If you’re a believer in the Bible, and you think non-believers are condescending to you for your belief, then maybe this will help clear things up. The Bible was written over 1,000 years ago, in the vernacular of the time to address the relevant issues of the time. As a moral compass, it is extremely out of date, past the point of being absurd. Perhaps using obsolete and absurd justification for behavior is a gaffe worthy of its detractors. If you wonder how an atheist defines his/her morals, it’s simple. You be the change you want to see. If you don’t ever think about why something is moral, then maybe you’re not as moral as you think.
