It looked like the Portland Timbers would have to swallow another frustrating result on Saturday at Colorado.

But Jack Jewsbury scored in the 93rd minute, lifting the Timbers to an emotional 2-1 win after a wild finish in the Major League Soccer match at Commerce City, Colo.

Colorado tied it at 1 in the 89th minute on Sam Cronin’s strike from distance. But, after a nice toe poke from Ishmael Yartey in front of goal, Jewsbury slid a ball past goalkeeper Clint Irwin for the winner.

“Yartey had a great touch to get it to me, and luckily it went in,” Jewsbury said.

Timbers coach Caleb Porter called the game-winner a special moment for the veteran Jewsbury, and for his team. Portland (5-5-4), which has won two straight, jumped up to sixth place in the Western Conference.

The Timbers won at Colorado (2-4-7) for the first time.

Yartey started the winning sequence by attacking up the left side before passing to Rodney Wallace. Wallace entered the penalty area then sent the ball back to Yartey who despite falling was able to steer the ball to the open Jewsbury.

Jewsbury and Wallace were the only Timbers in Saturday’s match who also played in the club’s inaugual MLS match at Colorado in 2011.

Gaston Fernandez scored in the 38th minute to give Portland a 1-0 lead.

Maximiliano Urruti — who was active and dangerous for much of the match — used a skilled individual effort to beat three defenders and fed a ball to an open Fernandez, who beat Irwin inside the far post.

Saturday’s match was the third in eight days for both teams, and the sixth road game in the last eight for the Timbers. Portland will now play five of its next seven matches at home, beginning next Saturday with a visit from the New England Revolution.

U.S. women tie South Korea

The United States wrapped up its World Cup warmup matches with a listless 0-0 draw against South Korea in Harrison, N.J. Portland Thorns forward Alex Morgan, who has not played in a month because of a bone bruise in her left knee, said that she will be ready for the team’s World Cup opener against Australia on June 8.

Spirit beat Thorns

Goals minutes apart in the first half lifted the Washington Spirit to a 2-1 win over the visiting Portland Thorns on Saturday in Boyds, Md.

Amanda Da Costa scored in the 26th minute and Crystal Dunn stole the ball from Thorns goalkeeper Michelle Betos for the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later.

Genoveva “Ayo” Anonma gave the Thorns a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, scoring her first National Women’s Soccer League goal off an Allie Long assist.

The Thorns (2-3-1, 10 points) visit Houston on June 6 before a two-week break during the group stage of the Women’s World Cup.

Timbers 2 win

Michael Nanchoff scored two second-half goals as Timbers 2 rallied for a 3-1 win on Saturday over the host Tulsa Roughnecks.

Nanchoff scored with a half-volley in the 63rd minute and converted a 74th-minute penalty kick as T2 overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit for the United Soccer League victory. Kharlton Belmar sealed the win with a counter-attack goal in the 90th minute off a Rundell Winchester assist.

T2 (4-4-2, 14 points) return to Oklahoma on Friday to take on the OKC Energy. Camas High graduate Brent Richards played the entire match at Tulsa for T2.
