RICHLAND — The manager of the Washington state Department of Ecology’s Nuclear Waste Program will retire at the end of February.
Jane Hedges is responsible for the state’s role in overseeing cleanup of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation and ensuring safe management of nuclear waste in the state.
The Tri-City Herald says the state and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are both Hanford regulators.
Hanford for decades made plutonium for nuclear weapons, and now is engaged in cleaning up the nation’s largest collection of nuclear waste.
