There were two meets at the Kelso same pool, but Columbia River topped them both.

The Chieftains scored 489 points to win the 3A district meet Saturday. That total also topped 4A district team winner Camas, which had 254.

Columbia River sophomore Kara Noftsker was the 3A swimmer of the meet. She won the 200 freestyle (1:58.64) and 100 free (54.16) and was on the winning 200 free and 400 free relay teams.

Just the winners and those achieving the state qualifying standard advance to the 3A state meet next week. Even if she hadn’t have won, Noftsker’s time in the 100 free was a state-qualifying time.

Same for teammate Makena Wilcox in the 100 butterfly (1:01.19).

The top two placers from the 4A meet earned spots to 4A state. But in the 100 breaststroke, three advanced as Skyview’s Hanna Eha, Camas’ Corinne Bintz and Siobhan Choong went 1-2-3 — all with state qualifying times.

Union’s Livi Cox (200 individual medley), Heritage’s Colleen Woods (100 fly), Mountain View’s Sruthi Ravi (100 backstroke) each won their events, also with state qualifying times. Same for the Camas 200 medley relay.

Woods add a district title in the 50 free. Cox also won the 500 free. Camas’ Hannah Clayton won the 100 and 200 free.

At the 2A district meet in Olympia, Hockinson’s Anna Carson placed second in the 500 free to qualify for state, and Leigh Meyer-Beyer of Hudson’s Bay was third in the 100 back to qualify for state.

The state championships are Friday and Saturday at Federal Way.
