Man acquitted in attempted rape on Burnt Bridge Creek Trail

A judge ruled Thursday that a man accused in an attempted rape on Vancouver’s Burnt Bridge Creek Trail was legally insane at the time of the incident and acquitted him of criminal charges.

Instead of being released from custody, however, 21-year-old Tremaine S. Rambo will be committed to Western State Hospital for an indeterminate amount of time.

Tanya Leffler ordered to remain in jail

Tanya Leffler, the woman accused in a 2014 vehicular homicide and separate drug-distribution case, will remain in jail until her January trial.

“You are a danger to this community,” Clark County Superior Judge Daniel Stahnke said. “I’m not going to let you out of jail.”

On Tuesday, Stahnke found that Leffler, 35, has repeatedly violated the conditions of her release. She had been out on bail for a third time recently when she allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine use. She also was picked up on a warrant when she didn’t show up for an Oct. 22 court appearance. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service took Leffler into custody Oct. 27 near Salem, Ore.

The Battle Ground woman allegedly was driving high on methamphetamine on April 14, 2014, when she struck and killed motorcyclist James Luden, 54, of Vancouver.

Courtyard Village, one year later

It’s been nearly a year since Rose Village resident Trina Pixley watched helplessly as her neighbors in the nearby Courtyard Village Apartments faced a Christmas season displacement and the prospect of becoming homeless.

Now, nearly a year later, the complex at 2600 T St., across from Pixley’s duplex, has a fresh coat of paint and large red-and-yellow signs that welcome the new tenants with the slogan “reinvent yourself” written across them. The reinvention includes a new name for the complex: Parc Central.

Purple Heart recipient saluted at Veterans Day ceremony

When Sgt. Arty Feldman of Vancouver received the Purple Heart he’d earned in Iraq, it was pretty much a hallway handoff.

Elizabeth Gochenour thought her boyfriend deserved a little more recognition than that. Feldman, now an Army veteran, got that recognition Wednesday during Clark County’s annual Veterans Day ceremony.

Maj. Gen. Karen LeDoux pinned the medal on Feldman’s shirt in front of an appreciative crowd at the Armed Forces Reserve Center.

Enjoy the salute to Sgt. Arty Feldman.
