OLYMPIA — While waiting to see what the courts do with an anti-tax initiative recently passed by voters, initiative promoter Tim Eyman says he’s already moving forward with another ballot measure.
Eyman said Tuesday that he’ll be filing a new anti-tax initiative with the secretary of state’s office on Wednesday. He says the new measure is called “Tougher To Raise Taxes.” It would put a one-year limit on tax increases unless tax increases approved by a two-thirds vote of the Legislature or a majority vote of the people.
Eyman’s most recent effort, I-1366, is currently being challenged in the courts. That measure, which passed with 52 percent of the vote, gives lawmakers a choice: By April 15, pass a constitutional amendment that raises the threshold needed for the Legislature to pass taxes, or else the state’s sales tax will be cut by one percent.
