Minnehaha — More than 300 students and veterans teamed up on Veterans Day to pack more than 25,000 pounds of food at Clark County Food Bank. They did so as part of the food bank’s Students & Veterans Engaging event. This year’s turnout was nearly double of last year’s, organizers said. The volunteers came from 35 schools, military branches, and organizations. The food will go to families in need around Clark County. After packing the food, the students and veterans sat down to a meal together. “Creating a layer of communication and a point of connection between students and veterans is wonderful,” Clark County Food Bank Volunteer Coordinator Marlene Ashworth, who organized the event, said in a news release from the food bank. “This event gives both groups an opportunity to engage together around a common good.”
