1. Family fun

How about a nice dip in the pool? It’s Family Fun Day at the Firstenburg Community Center, 700 N.E. 136th Ave., Vancouver, from noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 21. Visitors can take part in a free day of swimming, activities and a movie night. The climbing wall will be open to 12 climbers each session, and the pool will be open to 100 swimmers each hour. Bracelets for time slots will be handed out at 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be sports in the gym for all from 2 to 4 p.m., with a smaller playgroup for ages 6 and younger. Meet trainers in the fitness center for tips and healthy snacks, and the teen zone will be open from noon to 5 p.m. The movie “Inside Out,” rated PG, will be shown at 6 p.m. in the gym with complimentary popcorn, and moviegoers are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and pillows. 2. Santa and pets

The sixth annual Holiday Gift Fair features a variety of vendors offering gift ideas, home decor, jewelry, handicrafts and decorations. There will be musical entertainment, pictures with Santa, and pet rescues and adoption agencies on-site with adoptable animals. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 20-21 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. 3. Ballads of the Bard

Two Clark County high schools will take the stage in the Fall Festival of Shakespeare. The education program teams up Portland Playhouse and area high school students to bring Shakespeare’s works to life, both on stage and in the audience with Elizabethan vibrancy. Students from Ridgefield High School will perform “The Tempest” at noon, and students from Fort Vancouver will present “Macbeth” at 5 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Winningstad Theatre, 1111 S.W. 4. Sunday series

The Vancouver Symphony’s Chamber Series continues with Japanese cellist Ko Iwasaki, who has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Japan String Quartet. Iwasaki will perform with clarinetist Igor Shakhman and pianist Michael C. Liu at 3 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. 5. Racing to Thanksgiving

There’s still time to sign up to run before the big Thanksgiving feast while helping those in need. The annual Clark County Turkey Trot features 5K and 10K courses for runners and walkers along the Salmon Creek Trail. Brave souls also can take part in the Polar Bear Plunge into Klineline Pond at 10 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the Clark County Food Bank. Registration closes at 10 a.m. Nov. 24, with no race-day registration. The race begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 26 from Klineline Pond, Salmon Creek Park, 1482 N.E. 117th St. Registration is $25 for the races and $5 for the polar plunge. turkey-trot.org.

The 13th annual Gateway’s Run for the Hungry is a 5K run and walk through the neighborhoods and parks of east Washougal, and a way to give back on Thanksgiving. Same-day registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with runners kicking off the race at 8 a.m. Nov. 26, followed by joggers, walkers and families, at Washougal High School, 1201 39th St., Washougal. Registration is $20 to $25, $15 for children ages 10 and younger, and $90 for five-member teams.
