SPOKANE — Spokane Mayor David Condon will be taking a 6 percent pay cut next year, despite his efforts to get a higher salary.

The Spokesman-Review reports the city’s Salary Review Commission decided last week to reduce the mayor’s salary by more than $11,400. The mayor’s yearly pay will be $168,000 starting Jan 1.

To reach their unanimous decision, members of the commission examined the salaries of other elected officials across the state. They also reviewed per-capita personal income and median household income for Spokane County.

Condon had included pay increases for him and much of his cabinet in his proposed budget for 2015. Public criticism and pressure from city officials prompted the commission to review and set the mayor’s pay.

The mayor’s spokesman says Condon believes the review was fair.
