LONGVIEW — Five workers fired after a strike at a Longview paper mill and box plant over the summer could get their jobs back.
Investigators with the National Labor Relations Board found no evidence that the workers engaged in misconduct during the 12-day walkout at KapStone Paper and Packaging.
The union for the workers said the company accused four of them of blocking a public right-of-way. The fifth was accused of kicking a truck. Misconduct on the picket line would void a worker’s right to get his or her job back after the strike ended.
The labor board’s regional director, Ronald Hooks, said Wednesday that the agency will contact KapStone in effort to reach a settlement, which would include offering workers their jobs back. KapStone could also take the matter to a labor judge.
