President Bashar al-Assad of Syria is often blamed for intentionally attacking civilians. In actuality, the terrorists he is fighting mix in with civilians and use them for shields. U.S. officials refer to the rebels that they support in Syria as “moderates” even though they are not moderate. They fight for no valid reason. They are Sunnis who once supported their Sunni hero, Saddam Hussein.
The U.S. also refers to Saudi Arabia as a “moderate” ally, even though it was a financial supporter of Hussein when he exterminated a million innocent people in broad daylight.
Other major players against Assad include Turkey and France. Turkey never took a strong stand against Hussein’s crimes; in the 1970s and 1980s, France was a military arms supplier for Hussein’s killing machine. In contrast, Syria took a principled stand against Hussein, as did Iran.
U.S. officials call Assad a dictator even though there are free elections in Syria. Elections are rare in Saudi Arabia. Assad is being attacked because he stands for high principles and has values. U.S. officials and their “moderate” allies have a difficult time distinguishing right from wrong. Whether it be support for abortion, the gay lifestyle, gambling, or unethical groups in Syria, U.S. officials are wrong.
