A Vancouver man made a first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court after he allegedly robbed a man and brandished a handgun at a witness who tried to intervene, court documents show.

Marcus D. Bush, 22, faces an allegation of first-degree robbery in connection with the Sept. 20 incident.

A co-defendant, Vanessa Z. Delacruz, 21, appeared in court Sept. 21 on suspicion of first-degree robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The two are accused of assaulting a 20-year-old man shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 4500 block of Southeast Columbia Way. One of the suspects reached into the victim’s pants pocket and took his cellphone and car keys, according to a probable cause affidavit.

A witness who came upon the assault tried to intervene, but Bush displayed a handgun, the affidavit said.

Bush and Delacruz then left in a vehicle with three other people. Vancouver police officers found the vehicle, but the driver fled on foot and wasn’t immediately located. He left behind a cellphone, court documents said. Police later determined the cellphone belonged to Bush.

Police arrested Bush on Wednesday at his workplace in Camas, court records show.

He admitted to being involved in the incident but said Delacruz was the one who took the victim’s possessions, court records said. He also denied having a gun, the affidavit said.

During his Monday hearing, Judge Robert Lewis appointed Jeff Sowder to represent Bush. His bail was set at $25,000, records show.

He will be arraigned Wednesday.
