GASTON, Ore. — A man working at a lumber mill has died after being struck by a train about 30 miles west of Portland.

Officials with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies were called to the Stimson Lumber Mill near Gaston on Tuesday afternoon.

They found 46-year-old Antonio Avalos of McMinnville dead at the scene.

Deputies believe Avalos fell off the front of a slow-moving train while working in the rail yard.
