Detectives are investigating a two-car crash in the Felida area that sent one woman to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash near Northwest 36th Avenue and Creekside Drive was reported at 11:30 a.m. when one vehicle did a U-turn and was struck, Sgt. Fred Neiman said.
The woman’s car, a newer Volkswagen Beetle, according to Clark County Fire District 6 spokeswoman Sarah Walton, was parked facing north near the Salmon Creek trailhead. The woman attempted a U-turn to head south, and a full-size Chevy pickup struck the Volkswagen’s driver-side door, Neiman said.
Walton said responders arrived to find the woman unconscious, then cut her out of the vehicle. The woman was still unconscious when she arrived at the hospital, Walton said.
The woman was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with critical injuries, although Neiman said he was told her injuries were not life-threatening. The other driver was not injured; Walton said he was up and walking around soon after the crash. Neither person’s name was available.
The initial investigation shows that impairment was not a factor in the crash, Neiman said.
“The driver of the truck was cooperative,” he said. “There was no speed involved, no impairment, no other cause than the Volkswagen pulling out in front of the truck.”
