SEATTLE — With three weeks left to raise money, candidates in the crowded Seattle City Council race have already raised record sums.
KING-TV reports that between all 18 candidates and two ballot measures, campaign funds total more than $4,190,900, not including independent expenditures.
In district three race between council members Kshama Sawant and Pamela Banks has already set a record. Sawant has raised the most money in a single council race in city history, with more than $362,000.
Candidates’ individual campaigns have maximum contribution limits of $700 in Seattle, but independent expenditures have no limits. Independent expenditure spending cannot be known or made in cooperation or in concert with the candidate’s campaign.
