Two transient people accused in an ambush robbery last month made first appearances Friday in Clark County Superior Court, according to court records.

Kevin McCarter, 50, and Dorothy Sayers, 26, both appeared on suspicion of first-degree robbery. McCarter additionally faces an allegation of first-degree assault, court records show.

A third co-defendant, Stephanie Boehning, 24, made a first appearance Thursday in connection with the Sept. 30 incident.

Sayers is accused of recruiting Boehning to lure a 53-year-old victim to the 100 block of Southeast Columbia Way, where McCarter waited for them. He allegedly repeatedly hit the victim in the head with a bicycle lock while demanding his money, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The victim, who suffered large cuts to his face and head, escaped after stabbing McCarter in the left rib cage, court documents said.

In an interview with police, McCarter said Sayers told him the victim was “trying to buy girls,” which made him decide to rob him. He said Sayers knew about the planned robbery, the affidavit said.

It’s unclear if any of the suspects obtained any money or property from the victim.

During their first appearances, Judge Suzan Clark appointed each an attorney. Sayers’ bail was set at $20,000, and McCarter’s was set at $75,000, according to court records. Both are scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 21.
