Letter: Speeding is becoming an epidemic

By
Published:

On the four-lane roads I regularly use, about 75 percent of drivers exceed any posted speed limits, in spite of the almost daily Columbian reports of road carnage. Here are some possible whys:

“I just can’t leave early enough to get there on time.”

“Those speed limits are for bad drivers, not me.”

“I’m just learning how to drive, text and phone at the same time.”

“My car can, so I will.”

“My smart car has a mind of its own, I have no control over it.”

“If I speed I catch more red lights and red is my favorite color.”

“The chances of a ticket or fine is between slim and none. I have to keep up with the speeders ahead of me.”

Just think, we safe and careful drivers have to share the roads with the above whackos.
