Two girls from Shahala Middle School and one from Liberty won races on Thursday during the Greater St. Helens League Middle School Championship cross country meet. The races covered a 1.5-mile course at Union High School.

Drew Lobis from Shahala won the race for eighth graders. Her time was 9 minutes and 15 seconds. With five of the top 11 runners, Liberty won the eighth-grade team title by 16 points over Shahala.

In the seventh-grade race, Grace Varsek led a Liberty team that had the first five finishers in a runaway with the team title. Varsek’s time of 9:21 was one second in front of Jenna Lukowiak and two seconds faster than Hailey Sherman.

In the sixth-grade race, Shahala had five of the first seven finishers, including winner Haley Simpson who finished in 9:21 to beat Emma Coates of Liberty by one second.

Final team scores and the top 10 runners in each race are listed in the Community Sports Scoreboard. The meet included runners from five Evergreen Public Schools middle schools and two Camas middle schools.

These schools do not have boys cross country teams.
