Ex-staffer disputes Gowdy claim on Benghazi investigation

WASHINGTON — Lawyers for a former Republican staffer fired from the House panel investigating the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, are calling an assertion by the panel’s GOP chairman “unequivocally false.”

Lawyers Peter Romer-Friedman and Joe Napiltonia said Tuesday that top staff members on the Benghazi panel were fully aware of the concerns raised by Air Force Reserve Maj. Bradley Podliska before firing him in late June.

The former staffer had reservations about a partisan investigation focused on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. The panel’s chairman, South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, said he was unaware of the man’s concerns.

The lawyers also said they sent a cease-and-desist letter asking Gowdy to stop talking about confidential settlement discussions with Podliska.

Podliska plans to file a lawsuit contesting his dismissal.
