SEATTLE — Ride the Ducks Seattle has announced it will staff each amphibious tour vehicle with two people once the fleet is cleared to return to service.

KIRO-TV reported the tour company made the announcement to add a staff member in a statement Tuesday. The company says it is proactively identifying safety measures while the Utilities and Transportation Commission investigates their fleet.

The company also said there’s no indication that driver inattentiveness was a factor in the crash.

Washington state regulators suspended tour company operations after their vehicle veered into an oncoming charter bus carrying international college students on a bridge Sept. 24. The crash killed five people and injured dozens.

Federal investigators have said the duck boat involved in the wreck didn’t have an axle repair that was recommended two years ago.
