Weather Eye: Highs in 70s on tap for the rest of week

Monday sure turned out to be a pleasant day after the showers on the weekend. Temperatures reached 70 degrees, which is above average for this time of the year. The rest of the week we will see above average high temperatures, all in the 70s.

We could get some easterly winds midweek that could accelerate our afternoon temperatures to the upper 70s maybe an 80 here and there. We’ll see.

I know the woolly bear caterpillars all point to a cold winter, but the scientific community has drawn to the conclusion that it will be a mild winter, given the strong El Ni?o upon us. The big question is whether it will be dry or wet. We have several El Ni?o events to look back at and we have had both, so take your pick. I like to be a bit optimistic and think we will have a wet winter. We sure need it.

The rain we had Saturday was snow at the highest elevations and one could see a white cap on Mount Hood. That will be gone in a flash with the warm weather this week. There were plenty of pictures on social media yesterday of the beautiful sunset Sunday evening. The sunrise was nice too. Maybe we’ll see more of that this week.

So how are we doing so far this month? You’ll remember September ended up a little below average on rainfall and not too bad temperature-wise. Kind of an average month. The rainfall so far in Vancouver totals .47 of an inch, about .60 of an inch below average. The average mean temperature is 61 degrees, 4.2 degrees above average. So overall, a warm and dry month.

After a sunny week clouds and rain are in the forecast for the weekend, of course. Somehow we have to get out of that pattern and have any rainfall during the work week!

Enjoy the Indian summerlike weather this week.
