CHILOQUIN, Ore. — Oregon State Police say a man died when he lost control of his 1969 Chevrolet Corvette while trying to pass slower traffic on Highway 97 north of Chiloquin in Klamath County.

Lt. Bill Fugate says the car rolled multiple times, ejecting the driver — 64-year-old Robert Johnson of Bend. He died at the scene late Sunday afternoon.

Johnson was alone in the car, and no other vehicles got caught up in the crash.

The investigation remains active, but police say speed was a contributing factor.

Highway 97 was closed for 30 minutes and reduced to one lane for several hours.
