The person struck and killed by a train north of Felida earlier this week was identified as a Vancouver man.

Roberto Cortez, 32, died of multiple blunt force injuries, determined to be an accident, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cortez, who went by Tony, is survived by his wife, son, six siblings and his parents, according to his family.

He worked as a volunteer firefighter for four years at South Sherman Fire & Rescue in Shaniko, Ore.

Glenn Fluhr, fire chief for the agency, said that Cortez was a fun person to have on the crew.

“The guy was very well liked in the department and had a wonderful sense of humor … he was always joking and laughing,” Fluhr said. “He was very good at responding to calls and served the community of Shaniko very well.”

Cortez’s family described him as a “hard working loving man who loved to the fullest and is greatly missed by many.”

Friends and family of Cortez have set up a donation account to offset the costs for a funeral. Those interested in donating can do so at https://www.gofundme.com/tr6vyars.
