Letter: Simply say ‘job well done’

Whenever a story or letter begins, “If women or any other life form,” I know I’m in for a good read and sure enough, Michael E. White did not disappoint with his Aug. 26 letter “Gender differences remain.” Apparently firm in his belief that the Dictionary of Delightful and Delicious Adjectives and Adverbs can still bolster the facade of male superiority, White spins a wordy web of rationales to beware the exploits of the likes of Army 1st Lt. Shaye Haver and Capt. Kristen Griest, lest these “exceptions” become the prevailing winds leading to the furthering of “temporary moral standards and socio/political conditioning” (his words, not mine).

Well, in the spirit of conciliation, I would like to reassure the writer that after the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment in 1972, we are still 15 states short of ratification so the bastion of male domination is probably secure enough for the moment to stop the bombast and just say, “Congratulations and job well done” to two incredible, accomplished women.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
