A transient man who allegedly robbed a Vancouver 7-Eleven early Monday morning made a first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Rick D. Guilliams, 59, appeared on suspicion of second-degree robbery stemming from the incident.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Guilliams entered the 7-Eleven store at 3200 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. at about 5:35 a.m., selected a bottle of wine and then demanded a pack of cigarettes from the store clerk, Jesse Jenkins.

Guilliams allegedly told Jenkins to put the pack of cigarettes on the counter and said, “back off, I’m packing.” He then reportedly reached into his right jacket pocket and patted it, court records said.

Jenkins told police he thought Guilliams was armed and that Guilliams left the store with the items, the affidavit said.

Guilliams was found and arrested in the 3100 block of East Fourth Plain Boulevard, according to court documents.

On Monday, Judge Scott Collier appointed Guilliams an attorney and set bail at $40,000.

Guilliams is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 25.
