Prep highlights: Hudson’s Bay boys cross country sweeps top 4 spots

Ethan Mayers, Paul Furst, Quin Benning and Thomas Goode swept the top four spots as the Hudson’s Bay boys cross country team beat R.A. Long and Fort Vancouver on Wednesday.

Hudson’s Bay won the meet against R.A. Long 20-35 and against Fort Vancouver 17-42.

Mayers set the pace, finishing the 4,000-meter course in 13 minutes, 56 seconds. Furst (14:36), Benning (14:40) and Goode (14:43) followed.

Stars of the day

  •  Emily Phelps, Fort Vancouer cross country, won the 4-kilometer race in the double-dual meet between Fort, Hudson’s Bay and R.A. Long. The freshman covered the course in 16 minutes, 7 seconds.
  •  Jenna Melanson, La Center girls cross country, won a Trico League meet at Vancouver Lake in 20:22 as La Center beat five teams.
  •  Hannah Swigert, Washougal girls cross country, placed third overall at the Skip Sparks Invitational in Hood River, Ore., in 20:45.
  •  Gabriel Dinnel, Washougal boys cross country, placed fourth overall at the Skip Sparks Invitational in Hood River, Ore. The freshman finished in 16:42 as Washougal placed third in the team standings.
  •  Abby England, La Center volleyball, had 24 digs, 10 service points and five aces as the Wildcats beat Stevenson 3-1.
