The Wal-Mart Super Center in Orchards is opening Sept. 23 — one of the highest traffic count retailers in Clark County. Someone in planning approved an access road into this supercenter and 200 acres of the new Bircher Business Park off the ancient farm-to-market road of 137th Avenue — a narrow old country road with no shoulders, no sidewalks and presently a precipitous 4-foot drop-off into a ditch.
Probably the same people who approved four traffic rounders on 137th Avenue — some with no side streets and trees so tall you cannot see oncoming traffic. Alongside the rounders they planted species of trees that are growing into the traffic lanes that scrape the sides of larger vehicles. Nature is solving this issue — they are dying because there is no root space between the street and sidewalk.
Probably the same people who approved all the overly dense planting of road landscape materials and no money to maintain them. Our rounder is an unsightly overgrown weed patch with dying trees.
After we travel the dizzy merry-go-round of four rounders on 137th Avenue, we will now have to negotiate traffic chaos of a street accessing a major shopping and business park on a road designed to carry cars with a hand crank.
