Letter: Urge upholding Iran agreement

I urge The Columbian readers to contact Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and thank her for her support of the diplomatic agreement to severely curb nuclear weapons development in Iran. This was a very difficult decision for the senator regarding a complex issue that impacts our national as well as global security.

As Murray said in her announcement in support of the deal, she met with many people with direct involvement in negotiating the deal, as well as articulate opponents, and came away with the belief “that rejecting this deal would continue Iran down the path they are currently on, it would do nothing to stop their short-term ability to develop a nuclear weapon, and it would limit our ability to verify Iran’s nuclear activity.”

I would also urge that readers contact Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, to add her voice for continuing support of this critical effort to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed nation.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
