A couple is suing the city of Battle Ground and Battle Ground Police Department for $350,000, claiming officers wrongfully arrested the husband for domestic violence.

Thomas and Michelle Bondurant of Vancouver, who are representing themselves, filed the lawsuit Sept. 22 in Clark County Superior Court.

The lawsuit alleges that police on March 17, 2013, without a warrant, entered the couple’s home, removed Thomas Bondurant from his bed and arrested him. The couple also claims police failed to notify Bondurant of his rights and filed a false report, which included disorderly conduct, obstructing a law enforcement officer and impersonating a paramedic.

There were 10 children inside the couple’s room when police entered, the suit says. The Bondurants allege police improperly handled the children and Michelle Bondurant, according to the lawsuit.

Efforts to reach a spokesperson with the city of Battle Ground were unsuccessful Monday.
