Well, things just got a little bit interesting.

Battle Ground’s 69-43 win over Mountain View in football on Friday mixed things up in the 4A Greater St. Helens League in ways we haven’t seen in a while.

It left four teams in the league with one loss — Evergreen (1-1), Battle Ground (1-1), Mountain View (1-1) and Union (0-1). And it left just two undefeated teams — Skyview (2-0) and Camas (1-0).

And it just so happens that those two undefeated teams play each other this week. Camas will play Skyview on Friday at Kiggins Bowl in what might amount to the 4A GSHL title game.

That is in no way a certainty, given the way things have unfolded this season. But the winner of Friday’s game certainly will have the inside track to securing the league title.

Having seen Evergreen in consecutive weeks, I’m not sure the Plainsmen are ready to be in the mix for a playoff berth. But any of the other five 4A GSHL teams can certainly find themselves claiming one of the league’s three spots in Week 10.

And that leaves the 4A GSHL with at least one, and often two, compelling matchups the rest of the season.

So it looks like it will be a fun October.

Here’s a quick look at other key league matchups as the calendar begins to turn the page on September and move into October.

Volleyball

Camas (4-0) travels to play Battle Ground (3-0) in a battle of unbeaten in the 4A GSHL on Tuesday.

In the 2A GSHL, Woodland (2-1) plays at Hockinson (3-0) on Tuesday as both teams look to keep pace with Ridgefield (4-0).

Kalama (3-0) plays at La Center (3-0) on Tuesday in a battle of Trico frontrunners. La Center also hosts King’s Way Christian (2-1) on Thursday, while Kalama travels to play Seton Catholic (3-1). These could be the four teams representing the Trico in the district tournament come November.

The 3A GSHL is still a week away from starting its short six-match league schedule.

Girls soccer

In the 4A GSHL, Camas (4-0-0) plays Union (3-1-0) on Thursday at McKenzie Stadium.

It’s a big week for La Center in the Trico League. The Wildcats (3-0) play Seton Catholic (3-0) at Camas High’s Cardon Field on Tuesday. Then the Wildcats travel to play King’s Way Christian (2-0) on Thursday.

In the 2A GSHL, Ridgefield (4-0) and Hockinson (3-0) don’t meet until next week.

And, again, the 3A GSHL doesn’t open league play until next week.
