Letter: Random thoughts to contemplate

Regarding the Affordable Health Care Act: Several senators were given $100 million in Medicaid funding for their state coffers to encourage “yes” votes, and a sixth senator from Louisiana, when asked by TV reporters if she also received $100 million for her vote to reach the 60 required, replied that she received $300 million.

Other than complimenting Clark County Councilor David Madore for having good taste in vehicles, has Columbian Editor Lou Brancaccio ever made a positive comment in print regarding Madore’s accomplishments for the residents of Clark County?

One instance that I have in mind as an accomplishment is that Madore agreed with the residents of Clark County in their vote against light rail. He helped to eliminate it, saving taxpayers $1 billion. Clark County wanted only a new bridge, but Portland’s mayor and other elected officials on both sides of the river repeatedly insisted: “No light rail, no bridge.” They got their wish.

During Bill Clinton’s administration, his wife, Hillary Clinton, invested $1,000 with a commodities brokerage, guided by a friend, James Blair, who was also a lawyer for Tyson Foods Co. One year later, her return was $100,000. The odds of this astronomical gain are unbelievable, except, obviously, to Mrs. Clinton.
