A memorial service and celebration of life for the late John McKibbin will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at Columbia Presbyterian Church, 805 Columbia Ridge Dr., according to family friend Ron Arp.

McKibbin, an experienced private pilot, was killed with passenger Irene Mustain on March 22 when his World War II-era plane plunged into the Columbia River near Astoria, Ore. They were on a mission to scatter the ashes of Mustain’s late husband, who was also a pilot and a veteran.

For more than four decades, McKibbin, 69, was one of Clark County’s best-known citizens. He represented Clark County in the state Legislature, was a county commissioner, and was involved in many other civic and leadership activities.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
