Former soldier and prisoner of war Jessica Lynch will be the keynote speaker at the 2016 Clark College commencement June 16. Lynch will share her experiences overcoming obstacles and persevering. She also will talk about the importance of education.

On March 23, 2003, Lynch, then serving in the Army as a private first class, was injured and captured by Iraqi forces after her unit was ambushed. After nine days in captivity, she was rescued by U.S. special operations forces. Despite the most difficult circumstances, Lynch says a positive outlook and determination can help individuals live fulfilling lives and accomplish their goals.

Lynch has a bachelor’s in elementary education and a master’s degree in communication studies.

Commencement begins at 7 p.m. June 16 in the Sunlight Supply Amphitheater, 17200 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Tickets are not required.
